There are few things I love more than talking about video games. My purpose in writing retro game reviews—and hopefully other related content—is to start a conversation by sharing my perception of the games we used to play and, over time, paint a picture showing how they shaped my enjoyment of the hobby today. In turn, I hope it sparks core memories of your time spent discovering your enjoyment of video games. And I’d love to hear all about it!
Since it’s called The 8-Bit Perspective, does that mean I will only cover NES games?
Not at all, dear readers. We’re going on a cross-console journey of both the familiar and perhaps not-so-familiar. Nothing is off the table unless I don’t have access to it. “So why call it The 8-Bit Perspective?”, you might be thinking.
Born in the mid-80s, my exposure to video games coincided with the rise of the 8-bit generation. The Nintendo Entertainment System was the first console in our house. Therefore, as you can imagine, games like Duck Hunt, Rad Racer, Super Mario Bros., Blaster Master, and others left an indelible impression on me. That time period informed my perspective (eh, eh?) of engagement with video games. Therefore, I so named this newsletter to acknowledge the era that kickstarted my lifelong journey into video games.
